One day, over 40 years ago, a guy came to me and said, "You're going to be great, little one ..." Later I learned that this guy was "Don José" ...for some inexplicable reason this man has been linked to my destiny. He is my biggest supporter during the bad times and he is my praise during the good ones..

"How many generations have to pass for another person like him to appear?", I wonder ...

If I had to define him I think I would say he is "a flaw on two legs surrounded by great virtues" ... Small in stature but with a big heart. An unconditional friend to his friends, never solitary, a messy kind, fun partygoer and very impatient .

Don José is a world full of contradictions. How can he be so irritated one minute and then calm the next. He can spend a whole day with a fishing rod in his hands without catching a single fish?? The curiosities of life ...

One day I said to him "I'm going to travel the Americas," and he answered me "hurry up you're running late".
"A few months later, he was at the airport giving me my first hug and he said to me, "You're big little one, you did it yourself! you've roamed the longest continent in the world ..."

Last year I told him "I'm going to go around the world" ... and he said to me   "wrap yourself up ..it's gonna be cold ..."
Always the right answer to an unexpected question ... Don José is such a character ...

Unfortunately, life sometimes is unfair and heartless ... but that's life. Last year a few days away from my trip, Don José became very ill. At the hospital, the doctors broke the news that nobody wanted to hear... a terrible type of cancer  was taking him... Five weeks later, on September 17, Don José left us forever..

My friend, my partner, the person who pushed me to "live life" has left... the person who most trusted in me without any doubt is gone... a fundamental part of my life is gone ...

If I were to write on his gravestone I would put "Here lies the remains of a creature that was beautiful without vanity, strong without insolence, courageous without ferocity, with both virtues and faults."

Like Ayrton Senna said..."Every year there is a champion, but there is not always a great champion"

Rest in peace, Don José .... Goodbye Dad ...

Viaje cancelado - aplazado...

JIMENA!!!

Jimena looks beautiful ...
I have spent over three months working on this beauty and the results are spectacular! This is how Jimena looks and how she'll cross the world..

Besides being effective I have decorated her with a personal touch. To be prepared for a trip this huge is hard, it's not a challenge to make her beautiful.

On every trip I go on, I realized that going with a bike looking this attractive brings me more disadvantages than advantages. Yes, it sounds incredible, one of the advantages is that everyone is interested in the bike, to know more about the trip and the adventure. That leads me to make new friends and especially people who will lend a hand when I need it most ...

Ladies and gentlemen ... I give you JIMENA .....!

Te has sentido chiquitito frente a un volcán?

Y yo me pregunto...

The pleasure of traveling
Some people have told me many times that they travel because they're are trying to escape from something...
They are so wrong...
Traveling is much more than that... It's out of the "every day is the same" routine, it is to learn and know different cultures and customs, is to realize that the world is very big and we are simply "little pieces of shit" in an endless map ... traveling is extending your arm with a beer to toast and not remember your own name.

To travel is to LIVE!

Behind every trip there are hundreds and hundreds of details that make it unique and unforgettable ... I'll show you. Have you ever seen the thermometer at 7am and it shows -6 º and five hours later it's at +38 º?
Have you ever felt desperate because you're lonely, you're tired of the routine in your everday life and find a sign that says "straight to desperation"? Have you felt tiny compared to a volcano? And in front of a large continent?
You've lost respect for the distance you go, 50, 500 or 5000km and not take advantage of the view. Have you ever said I will not take more pictures and  when you finish the trip  you check and realized you've surpass over  2500 shots? You've laughed, cried, sighed and enjoyed, all of this within 24 hours? You who are reading this ... have you cursed every morning while puting on your boots and thanked yourslef for being able to take them off at night? You've been given instructions on how to react if you come across a bear knowing that you will spend the next 5 days in their territories?

No doubt I could spend hours and hours showing you the exclusivity of each trip ...
And I wonder ... If you buy new shoes, a suit or designer shirt that can cost you a bunch of money, how much would each trip be worth and keep in mind that these are exclusive?? hmm....Impossible to put a price on them.

Before deciding the destination through a map and just after watching a travel documentary. And now sliding the mouse across the computer screen. Distant, remote and unattainable .... Inalcanzables?? I see far away destinations?distant ones and unreachable ones..  That's Bull!

One way or another, travel is travel and the sense of remoteness accompanies it. And I will spend this life crossing the computer screen with the mouse and selecting the next destination.
It's strange to observe when coming back from a trip on the plane most travelers look all sad, thoughtful and thinking "they have to work on Monday." Descending from the clouds, never better said, it's like slowly returning to the harsh reality .... But I always return smiling .... smiling because as I'm walking away, I'm already deciding on my next adventure ...

To Travel is to change "the today and the same" to "tomorrow and a new surprise" ... will you tell me now.. I travel because I run away from something??

 Video Camera Adapter
On every trip there is a must: Photos! Faithful witness of lived experiences, an "affidavit" of every moment I've enjoyed. And proof that  "I was here".

But equally essential, even with a strong pain in the ass I continue smiling even though I don't feel like it.

Each picture involves:
Find the place, landscape, location, the moment.
Stop the bike abruptly or not. But in the end I have to stop.
Take out the helmet, Remove camera's tripod and pray that still have enough  battery left and more memory to store it.
Relocate, focus, try and decide
Activate the self timer (which I always forget)
Press and run
Smile and ..
back to the camera to put everything away
again I put my helmet back on
 And back on the road....
A total of ... mmmm ...about 10 minutes for each picture I take ....
On a regular day, I suppose I take about 25 photos so that's 250 minutes, more than 4 hours!!

Four hours is a luxury that we usually don't have when we're traveling ... I remember in previous trips I used tell myself... today "I won't take any pictures!"  and I always fail. You never know when you'll find a volcano, a mountain, or just a person walking along the road that obligated me to stop and immortalize the moment  ...

The dozens of hours I wasted on the road taking pictures makes me obligated to look for a system that allows me to take pictures, focusing on them perfectly and without wasting time ...

Oh head, why do I keep you???

First things first is the Camera ... We should look for something really good that will be responsible for showing my travels, to reminsce y to leave footprints of our trips ...
Here and there, I found what I was looking for. A great resolution, a spectacular stabalizer, display and waterproof casing. And after all of this, do you dare ask for something better?

Now the support.... As it has it's own display in the camera itself, I need to "see to aim." Without a doubt the chin is the perfect place.

Manos a la obra en la cerrajería.
Tuercas remachables y muchas horas de paciencia.

Back to work, hands on the locksmith. Rivet nuts and many hours of patience.

t's mpossible to count how many times I removed and put on my helmet  jutst to try it. A little higher ... a little lower ... it was too much ... now up again ... down ... now I see the display .. now I see it way too big ........ Arghhh!! too much to handle!!!

Finally it's done....
We now have a camera chin mount on the helmet, with the display at a glance, easy to use, controlled by the remote control and easy to remove.

That night I tested it at home...

And here is the work done. The display on and perfectly controllable, so now I can take pictures from my helmet without having to get off the bike.

I will test it on Sunday.. but I'm sure it will work perfectly ...

The goodbyes begin. Canaries on bike.
If you were given the opportunity to choose a birthday gift, the best birthday gift ever .... What would it be?
If I was 10 years old I would provably ask for a remote control racing car for sure.
if I was 15, a bicycle...
and now I'm in my forties ...all I wish for is to be surrounded by the people who love me.
A handful of crasy guys on two wheels.
The project: go around the 7 Canary Islands in 7 days on bike.
And the pretentious idea of wanting to a picture in each and every one of the 88 villages that make up the Canary Islands.
It's my birthday!! and what a better opportunity to reunite with friend, share a nice meal at my table, and then we eat, daydream, breath, exaggerate, lie and talk aboout the biggest passion we all share which is our bikes!!
Since early that morning we started organizing our trip. Thirty people for lunch ... THIRTY??Jose Joan and Mauro, the first "volunteers" to peel "potatoes" ... Antonio the head chef, who was responsible for feeding so many people ...

Katty, Pavela, Dulcinea, Linda, Inés, Margarita y Jimena....

While I'm dedicated to the "artillery" .... we had to leave the "girls" sparkling and clean ...
Katty, Pavela, Dulcinea, Linda, Ines, Margarita and Jimena ....

One by one the first guests begin to arrive ... Fernando, representing "Autorepuestos Fierro-Suzuki" who was very surprised to see the V-strom that he had  placed in my hand about two months ago. The star that will go around the world.

TREINTA!!!!
Jamás habían llegado tantas motos a mi casa... y que motos!!!!!
Colores, motores, ruido y más ruido.... Ingredientes todos para una jornada inolvidable...

Suddenly the roar of the engines are heard ... one .. two ... three ... eight ... twelve ... twenty ... thirty .. THIRTY!! I never had so many bikes come to my house, so many bikes and motorcycles ...!! The colors, the engines, the noise and lots and lots of noise .... all the main ingredients for an unforgettable day ...

Introducing each other, the first minutes was spent with everyone chatting together, all enjoying our machines and the terrific atmosphere.

Con unos 400m2, casi no había espacio "pa tanta gente"!!!!

With approximately 400m2, there were almost no space "for so many people!"!

The extended family, a lot of good and great friends for life.
Thank you all for such wonderful detail. You have been without a doubt the best birthday present I could ask for.
Thanks You Fernando (Canaries in moto) to making them go to my house. Thanks You Fernando (Montes de Luna) for the potatoes. Thanks to José Joan and Mauro for peeling the potatoes ...
And thanks to our wonderful chef Antonio, for once again preparing a delicious meal that made us avoid ordering "pizza" ...

You know where to find an unconditional friend, a "motorcycle club" with the best atmosphere. Until next time.
